Room Freshener

This works great in a small bathroom.

To begin you will need the following;

  •  An 8 oz. glass Mason jar.
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 20-30 drops of essential oils of your choosing. (I chose spearmint & lime.)

Mix the ingredients well in a bowl and then spoon into your jar, fill about 3/4 full.

Use either tulle, burlap or a lightweight piece of fabric. Cut the fabric to fit over the top of the jar ( you can use scallop scissors for the edges to make it pretty) and then screw the ring back on to hold it in place.  Whenever you feel the scent is fading just shake the jar a little or add a few more drops of essential oils.

Homemade Sunscreen

With summer on our heels it is time to start preparing for the beach, BBQ’s and pool parties! If you are concerned about all the chemicals in commercial sunscreen brands then the best solution may be to make your own.  Here is an easy and affordable recipe.

You will need the following;

  •  A natural  lotion. I found a great natural base at Aromatics international.
  •   Non-nano zinc oxide.
  • Gold or brown colored mica
  • a 4oz PET plastic jar or flip top squeeze bottle. (A flip top bottle will help keep the product free from bacteria)

Use 4 oz of the natural lotion base and add 1 tablespoon of zinc oxide, be sure to mix it well. CAUTION: be sure to wear a mask when adding and stirring the zinc oxide, you do not want to inhale this powder.  Once the powder is mixed in the base it is fine to take off the mask.

To avoid the white chalky look, add the mica to create a color to match your skin. I like to make it a little darker for a tinted sunscreen. Add your lotion to a jar or bottle and store in a cool dry area. Use this daily to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.  This zinc oxide will not be absorbed into the skin like commercial products. Zinc oxide forms a layer of protection on the surface of the skin and does not penetrate into the skin layers.

*Always reapply after swimming or sweating.*

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH FACE LOTION

Melt beeswax in coconut oil in a double boiler on the stove, add jojoba oil, stir.  Let cool for about 5 minutes (until is just starts to solidify).  Then add sea buck thorn berry oil, vitamin E and grape seed extract. With a handheld mixer or stick start blending ingredients on a high speed, slowly add the aloe vera gel until you get a creamy yellow mixture.  Transfer the mixture into a 6 oz PET plastic jar or container and store in a cool area.  For best results store in a flip top bottle so that you are not sticking your fingers into the product or you can use a wooden spoon to scoop out the lotion.  This lotion will last about 6 mo’s.

NATURAL MAKEUP REMOVER

Mix ingredients together and pour into a small bottle with a flip cap.  Store in a room above 75 degree or coconut oil will start to solidify. (In winter months you may want to use jojoba oil in place of coconut oil).

To use: Pour liquid onto a cotton ball or round and rub over eyelids to remove eye makeup. Use a dry cotton ball, round or tissue after to remove any left over residue.

 *Be careful not to get the mixture directly in the eyes*

IMMUNITY BOOSTER

You can easily create your own immunity booster essential oil blend to be used daily or whenever you feel illness coming on.

  • 40 drops clove essential oil
  • 35 drops lemon or orange essential oil
  • 20 drops cinnamon bark essential oil
  • 15 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops rosemary essential oil

You can get almost all the oils you will need in this pack here.

Blend all above oils and store in a dark glass (amber or cobalt) bottle available here.  For adults use a 3% dilution ratio with a carrier oil.  3%=  20 drops of essential oil per 1 ounce of carrier. For children or the elderly use a 1% dilution ratio. 1%= 3-6 drops of  essential oil per 1 ounce of carrier oil.  A great carrier oil is fractionated coconut oil.

Apply a few drops to the bottoms of the feet once a day.

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.  Essential oils are not meant to treat, cure or prevent any disease.
